What we have here is a collection of songs I’ve recorded randomly, for the most part, over more than a decade. And after contemplating for the longest time whether or not to release a set of covers, I chose these among the dozen or so I’ve recorded. Oh, in case you’re wondering, there is no common thread between them except my love for each and every one of the original versions.

- “Sainaguá”/”Digo Buenas Noches” [Luís Días]
A medley of two faves of mine from the late, great Dominican rocker who was an influence, a mentor and a friend.

- “I Will” [Beatles]
As a self-described apostle of the Church of McCartney, I’ve long toyed with the idea of recording an album of tropical Macca/Fabs covers. Maybe someday…

- “Del Tamaño Del Mar” (“Ocean Size”) [Jane’s Addiction]
What possessed me to record this one in Spanish—and in a style reminiscent of their own “Jane Says”—I’ll never know, but here it is.

- “Y” [Javier Solís]
A Latin American standard with numerous cover versions but, arguably, made famous by Solís, a legendary Mexican crooner, it was a fave of my Mom’s, which is how I came to know and love this one.

- “Papa Gene’s Blues” [Monkees]
The outfit comprised of Mickey Dolenz, Davey Jones, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork was the first band I ever pledged allegiance to. And this Papa Nez composition is among my most favorite of their songs.

- “I’m In Love With A Girl” [Big Star]
For years, I’ve been playing a pretty faithful rendition of this Alex Chilton-penned tune in my solo acoustic shows. But when it came to recording it, I thought I’d go for a very different arrangement, hence the stark, electronica treatment.
